All characters are able to use a system of Signs to wordlessly communicate using gestures and body language to any creature that speaks a Language. There are three types of Common Signs: Sign, Touchtap, and Vibrablop. These are only used when communication happens between characters who do not share a language. They can be used to communicate any concept, with the risk of Miscommunication. Common Signs can be used at any time, even in Combat.
| Common Sign | Origin | Form |
|---|---|---|
| Sign | Overworld | Hand gestures, body movements, facial expressions |
| Touchtap | Underdeep | Touch, tapping on surface of skin, tapping on nearby objects |
| Vibrablop | Undersea | Making vibrations in water with fins and gills |
| Time Spent Communicating | Length of message | Examples | |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 Bout (10 Seconds) | 2 Sentences | "Don't go in there, it's dangerous!" "Please stop fighting us, let's talk instead!" | |
| 1 Round (10 Minutes) | Up to 360 Sentences | More complex negotiations over truces can take place. Both sides of the conversation are in a rush. | |
| 1 Turn (1 Hours) | Unlimited | A conversation can take place until the sun goes down. |
Any time a player character tries to use Common Signs to communicate at least two sentences, they roll a Sign Check. The result on a d20 must be at least 13. Characters communicating with some NPCs may need to roll higher at the referee's discretion. A character's Beauty may be added to this Check. The referee can decide the result of the Miscommunication or roll on the table for inspiration.

Verbal and written communication is only possible when two characters share a language with each other. This communication is seamless and only requires the players and referee to roleplay interactions between characters and NPCs. Your Sublime bonus adds to the number of Languages you can begin the game speaking, reading, and writing fluently from the Humanoid Languages table. You may choose one of your Humanoid Languages as your character's native tongue. Any character that can speak the same Language as you can become your Companion
